5 things about Musikhaus Doblinger that you probably didn't know yet.

1) Doblinger was founded in 1817.

That's right, the Doblinger music store is now over 200 years old! It was in 1817 that Friedrich Mainzer founded a music rental shop on the corner of Dorotheergasse and Stallburggasse in Vienna's first district. Some time later, a sales department in the form of an antiquarian bookshop was added. And the rest - well - that's history.

2) The Doblinger Music Store has over 1 million items in its assortment.

In so many years, a lot of things accumulate. Over the years, Doblinger's product range has become broader and more extensive. From classical sheet music for all instruments to textbooks, biographies, CDs and DVDs: these are just a few examples of the things you can find on Doblinger's shelves. In this way, everyone will find what they are looking for, whether they are a beginner, a professional or simply interested in music.

3) Doblinger as a valued employer

We are very happy to know that some of our employees have been with us for many years. Most of them have been part of the team for 15-40 years. Although individual interests may vary, we are united by a common passion for music, which we are only too happy to share with you. Our shop employees are always there for you and will be happy to advise you! Here you can get to know us a little better.

4) Bernhard Herzmansky jun. was not allowed to enter his own shop for 6 years.

The Doblinger Music House was its very own success story from the very beginning, however, the "Anschluss" of Austria to Hitler's Germany meant a dramatic break: only a few days later Herzmansky Jr. was arrested and had to endure a short time in the Vienna prison as well as in the Dachau concentration camp. He was forced to withdraw completely from his business. It was only after the war, in 1945, that he was allowed to set foot in his business again for the first time and was finally able to continue where he had left off before: "In the ceaseless endeavour to remain at the cutting edge in sales and production and to offer and promote both attractive and artistically valuable products in equal measure".

5) The music archive of the music publishing house is kept in the Vienna City Hall.

History needs its place! After all, a considerable amount of sheet music can accumulate in 200 years. The historical sheet music archive of the Doblinger music publishing house is therefore safely stored in the publishing archive of the Austrian National Library, which is located in the Vienna Library of the Vienna City Hall. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ludwig_Doblinger_Musikbote.jpg

The Musikhaus Doblinger was and still is much more than just a shop. Rather, the company has always been firmly anchored in the world of music – either here in Austria and far beyond its borders!
